Morph Black Card

Updated: Aug 7, 2026

Morph Black was an on-chain membership and payment card project introduced by Morph for high-net-worth crypto asset users. Users were required to hold a Morph Black NFT and were originally expected to receive a physical black-and-gold card after completing identity verification. The Morph Pay system was intended to integrate crypto asset conversion, real-world spending, DeFi earnings, spending rewards, and ecosystem benefits. The card did not reach a long-term stable issuance stage, and Morph formally ended the entire project in September 2025.

Morph (morph.network) is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network designed specifically for consumer applications, global stablecoin payments, and commercial adoption. It is currently one of the foundational infrastructures in the Web3 payment and AI agent economy. Its core strengths and product features include: Innovative hybrid Rollup architecture: Through its pioneering Responsive Validity Proof (RVP), it perfectly combines Optimistic high throughput with ZK (zero-knowledge) ultra-fast settlement security, significantly shortening the traditional L2 asset withdrawal period of up to 7 days and achieving second-level cross-border settlement. Truly decentralized sequencer: Traditional L2s mostly rely on official single-point sequencers, whereas Morph uses a distributed sequencer network based on Tendermint consensus, completely eliminating single points of failure. While ensuring network censorship resistance, it reduces gas fees per transfer to less than $0.01. Native support for compliant stablecoin rails: Deep integration with Circle's USDC and its CCTP (Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol) provides a compliant, low-latency commercial network for cross-border e-commerce, crypto payroll, B2B settlement, and remote team treasury hedging. Financial backbone for AI and agentic economy: With sub-second transaction confirmation performance and extremely low fees, Morph is widely used to carry micro high-frequency payments between AI agents and tokenized flows of real-world assets (RWA).

Card overview

Morph Black NFT was launched in March 2025 as an on-chain credential for obtaining Morph Black membership and subsequent eligibility for a physical card. The project planned to connect user wallets, crypto asset exchange, fiat payments, and traditional banking services and to provide a 22-gram physical black-and-gold card, spending rewards, exclusive DeFi pools, ecosystem airdrops, event tickets, and concierge services. Users first had to mint or hold the NFT, then complete identity review and apply for the physical card. Due to changes in the compliance environment and Morph's strategic shift toward payments and blockchain infrastructure, the Black Card project ended before physical card issuance continued. Morph subsequently refunded the original minting fee to eligible NFT holders and paid additional ETH compensation to users who participated in both staking phases.

Notice: The Morph Black Card programme stopped issuing cards and ceased operations on 2025/09/06 due to changes in the compliance environment and Morph's shift in focus towards infrastructure. Morph Black NFT holders could claim a refund of 0.2 ETH, while eligible staking users additionally received a reward of 0.15 ETH or 0.1 ETH. The refund claim period ended on 2025/10/17.
