Pyra Card

Updated: Aug 5, 2026

The Pyra Card is a crypto asset-backed Visa credit card introduced by Pyra. It previously allowed users to deposit digital assets into a Solana-based investment account, obtain spending capacity backed by the investment portfolio, and make online or in-store payments using virtual cards, physical cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. The product used an overcollateralized model without traditional credit scoring. Borrowing generated by purchases could be repaid using account earnings, deposited stablecoins, or proceeds from selling collateral. Pyra is currently winding down operations, and all cards have been cancelled.

Pyra (pyra.fi) is a relatively new decentralized finance (DeFi) project focused on combining high DeFi yields with everyday payments (Visa card), positioning itself as a "decentralized neobank." 1. Core positioning and business model "Deposit-borrow-spend" cycle: The platform's design philosophy allows users to deposit crypto assets (such as stablecoins like USDC), earn DeFi protocol yields, and use these assets as collateral to apply for loans, which can then be used for everyday spending via the linked Pyra Visa card. Asset ownership: Unlike traditional centralized platforms, Pyra emphasizes "self-custodial" management, using smart contracts on the Solana blockchain to automate collateral management and liquidation logic. Main selling point: It attempts to solve the pain point of "having to sell crypto assets (incurring capital gains tax) to spend," enabling "spending without selling" through collateralized borrowing. According to an announcement on its official website, Pyra has officially announced it is shutting down. Business status: The platform has stopped all new user registrations, and all existing Pyra payment cards have been canceled. Current status: The platform is executing an orderly liquidation process aimed at allowing users to withdraw remaining balances. Next steps: They have launched a dedicated web portal for existing users to manage holdings and perform withdrawals. If you have any funds on the platform, visit pyra.fi immediately for withdrawal instructions.

Card overview

Pyra integrates an investment account, DeFi lending, and Visa card payments in one app. Users could originally fund their accounts through bank transfers or crypto assets. Assets entered integrated protocols in the Solana ecosystem to earn yield and were used to borrow USDC through markets such as Kamino on an overcollateralized basis. When the card was used, the system dynamically determined the available limit based on the account's collateral value, and users could set spending authorizations and periodic limits. Debt could be repaid by depositing USDC, using account yield, or selling part of the collateral through Jupiter. Accounts use the Privy smart account architecture and allow private keys to be exported. Because the Drift exploit had a major impact on user assets and platform operations, Pyra has stopped new-user registration, cancelled all existing cards, and shut down its mobile app. Only a web-based asset management portal remains available.

Notice: This card stopped issuing new cards and terminated payment services on 2026/06/15, affecting all Pyra Card users worldwide. Operations were discontinued because the Drift exploit had a significant impact on users and the platform, and the team was unable to find a sustainable path forward. All existing cards have been cancelled. Users should withdraw their funds and export their private keys through the web portal by 2026/09/15. The relevant Drift recovery tokens will be distributed separately once they become claimable.
