A card that works at a convenience store is not necessarily suitable for e-commerce, software subscriptions, game top-ups, or hotel bookings. Online payments also involve billing addresses, 3D Secure, merchant risk controls, recurring payments, and refund processing. These factors are often more important than whether the card is Visa or Mastercard.
Crypto payment cards currently worth comparing for online shopping include MetaMask Card, Bybit Card, RedotPay, Gnosis Pay Card, Wirex Card, Crypto.com Card, and Solayer Pay.
MetaMask Card
MetaMask Card is suitable for users who already use MetaMask and want to spend assets directly from their wallet.
Once the virtual card is activated, it can be used for ordinary online purchases and can also be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay. For recurring charges from some subscription merchants, users can view and manage them from their account.
A key feature is that assets do not need to be transferred to a centralized platform first; purchases can be settled directly from the wallet balance.
However, MetaMask Card is not available in every region. Whether a payment succeeds can still depend on the issuing region, billing address, and merchant rules.
Bybit Card
Once the Bybit Card virtual card is activated, it can be used for online payments without waiting for a physical card to arrive.
For users who frequently spend on e-commerce websites, software platforms, and app stores, the process is relatively straightforward. The card is connected to funds in the Bybit account, making balance management convenient.
Bybit Card may use different issuing programs in different regions, so fees, limits, and supported currencies may vary. The actual rules should be based on the information shown in the user's account.
RedotPay
RedotPay is better suited to ordinary online shopping, gaming platform top-ups, and linking a card to websites.
After applying for a virtual card, users can directly view the card number, expiration date, and security code without first adding it to a mobile wallet. The barrier to entry is relatively low for everyday small online purchases.
However, merchants differ in how they accept virtual cards, prepaid cards, and specific BINs. Some platforms also verify the billing address or account region.
If the main use case is ordinary e-commerce shopping, RedotPay is worth comparing. If you frequently buy expensive products, book hotels, or need to handle refunds, first review merchant-specific user feedback and refund rules.
Gnosis Pay Card
Gnosis Pay Card is better suited to users who hold stablecoins and also care about payment verification capabilities.
It can be used for online and in-app payments and supports Visa 3D Secure. When a transaction requires additional verification, users can confirm it with a verification code.
This is particularly important for European e-commerce, airline tickets, hotels, and some higher-risk merchants. Many virtual cards can handle small purchases but fail at the 3D Secure verification stage.
The main limitation of Gnosis Pay is regional eligibility. Currently, only users in selected countries and regions can apply.
Wirex Card
Wirex Card is better suited to users who shop frequently and need multi-currency spending.
Wirex provides both virtual and physical cards. The virtual card can be used directly for online shopping, while the physical card also covers in-store spending and ATM withdrawals.
Crypto assets and traditional currencies can be managed within the same account, making cross-currency shopping more convenient. However, if the product's listed currency differs from the account's settlement currency, foreign exchange costs may still apply.
To determine whether it is cost-effective, do not look only at cashback; also consider the exchange rate and final settlement amount.
Crypto.com Card
Once activated, the Crypto.com Card virtual card can be used directly for online shopping.
It is better suited to users who already use Crypto.com and maintain a spending balance on the platform over time. Different card tiers may offer different cashback rates, limits, and subscription benefits.
Crypto.com Card varies significantly by region. Rules in the United States, Europe, and other markets are not identical, and fees and limits may also change.
Existing platform users can decide whether it is worthwhile based on their current tier. If applying only for online shopping, it is not advisable to focus solely on the cashback rate.
Solayer Pay
Solayer Pay offers a virtual Visa card that can be used for online payments immediately after activation and can also be added to a mobile wallet.
It is more suitable for users in the Solana ecosystem or those who mainly spend USDC.
Identity verification is required before applying, and availability is limited by region. In addition to eligibility, users should also pay attention to membership fees and other related charges.
What Should You Focus on When Choosing a Card for Online Shopping?
For online shopping, cashback should not be the first thing you evaluate. First determine whether the card can make payments reliably.
Key points to check include:
- Whether a virtual card is provided
- Whether the virtual card can be used immediately after activation
- Whether 3D Secure is supported
- Whether subscriptions and automatic renewals are supported
- How the billing address should be entered
- Whether specific merchant categories are restricted
- Whether refunds can be returned to the original payment method
- Whether transaction or foreign exchange fees are charged
- Whether there is a functioning customer support channel if the card is frozen
Ordinary online purchases and subscription payments should also be assessed separately.
A card may work on Amazon or ordinary e-commerce websites but fail to reliably pay for ChatGPT, Netflix, cloud services, or other automatically renewing products. Subscription payments generally place higher requirements on available balance, card status, and merchant risk controls.
Refunds Are Often More Complicated Than Payments
Online shopping frequently involves order cancellations, partial refunds, or out-of-stock items.
A successful payment does not guarantee a smooth refund. Refunds may take several days, and processing can become more difficult if the card has already been frozen, closed, or replaced.
Before buying an expensive product, it is best to confirm the refund rules. Do not assume that because one small payment succeeded, the same card should immediately be used for a large order.
Which Card Is More Suitable for You?
If you already use MetaMask and want to spend directly from a self-custody wallet, consider MetaMask Card.
If you mainly hold assets on Bybit and need a virtual card that can be used for online shopping immediately after activation, consider Bybit Card.
If the main use cases are ordinary e-commerce, gaming top-ups, and linking a card to websites, RedotPay offers a more straightforward setup.
If 3D Secure and stablecoin payments matter to you, compare Gnosis Pay Card.
If you need both online shopping and in-store payments plus ATM withdrawals, Wirex Card provides broader coverage.
If you are already a Crypto.com user, first check whether the fees associated with your current tier and region are suitable.
If you mainly use Solana and USDC, consider Solayer Pay.
No card can guarantee successful payment on every shopping website. Merchants may still reject transactions based on the card's issuing country, BIN, billing address, product type, and account risk. If a particular virtual-card BIN is flagged by merchants, payments may also fail. Actual user experience and platform rule changes therefore need to be monitored continuously.
